Get Ready for Outdoor Living
Publish On 04-04-2008 , 1:26 PM
Warmer weather will begin to lure you outside soon. It's time to take stock of what you have and what you will need so you will be ready for outdoor living. A dining table and chairs set is fine for regular dining, but there are so many more possibilities that are fun, attractive and probably right in your home, right now. A colorful quilt/throw and floor pillows in coordinating colors can give a fun and impromtu picnic feeling to a simple meal. Coffee tables and game tables can be used for casual dining. I've even used a very old Ping Pong table, covered in layers of newspaper, for a crab feast. It made the perfect "banquet" table with its centerpiece of mounds of steamed crabs. Outdoor Activities Keep an outdoor storage box stocked with classic games like badminton and croquet-even flashlights for flashlight tag. Set up your own miniature golf course complete with glow in the dark golf balls for games that may go into the evening. Shop for outdoor games early in the season for best selection, but keep checking back as stock can be added for weeks. Outdoor Relaxation Sometimes you just want to kick back and relax. An outdoor water feature may be just the thing to help. Miniature waterfalls and fountains are easy to find but be sure that they are rated for outdoor use. Plan to have areas for reading, sunning, listening to music or even watching TV or a movie under the stars. (Great for a Popcorn and Movie Party) Chairs, lounges, ottomans, benches and pillows make the seating comfy. Consider adding outdoor lighting, a fire pit or other source of warmth for cooler evenings and fans for later in the season. Remember to shop your home first for potential furnishings and accessories, keep it simple and don't over buy. Outdoor living is meant to be less complicated! ~ Pam Faulkner, Faulkner House Interior Redesign, Northern Virginia
